Questionnaire

Questionnaire Results

What are you favourite opening credits?

I had a range of different answers for this question due to the amount of films and genres that people tend to like.

What is your favourite genre of film?

Again, this question was answered differently by everyone but the majority went for either action / thriller or romcom.

What would you expect to see in the opening credits in your favourite genre?

Action / Thriller - quite a lot of people said that they would like to see some of the action or images of weapons such as guns. Some people said that they quite liked the idea of a chase or something that keeps you on the edge of your seat which again was quite interesting. I also had a few people tell me that they liked to see the main characters and what they were doing or how they got into the situation that they're in. One person said that they quite liked the opening credits for Skyfall because of the action that goes on beforehand and then continues in the opening credits when we see Bond following his shadows.
Another comment that was made about the opening credits was that people didn't like to see them in the opening of an action / thriller film.

Romcom - people generally tended to go with seeing the main characters and what they were doing so that it set the story up. They liked to see how the characters might have met or what exactly they were doing (maybe a bit of history about the characters as a couple of even individually)

What do you think makes a good opening sequence?

The majority of people commented on Mise en Scene and special effects because they believed that this built up the story that was to come.

How long do you think the opening credits should last for?

Most of the people I asked said about 2-3 minutes.

What do you think should be included in the opening credits?

Quite a lot of the people I asked said that they like to see the main character(s) and where they were / how they got there. This again was interesting because only a few people mentioned the titles because the majority liked to watch what was going on on the screen because this helped to set up the story and gave them clues on what the story was about.
