Editing of The Prisoner: The Outcome
The script
Although I did stick to the script for the majority of my video, I also decided not to use some parts of the script such as the location that we are given at the beginning and the laughing at the end because I thought that the laughing would be a little bit too much and I wanted my ending to be left open to people's interpretation.
The trimming
I have trimmed down my videos so that the pace of the script is quite quick and I have also changed a shot that I had originally decided to use. I thought that it would be a good idea to use two shots of one of the actors walking into the room to meet the other actor. I used a shot of them opening the door and suddenly changed to them walking into the room and closing the door behind them which I thought was quite effective.
Things I found hard
- I found it quite hard to stick to the script and to make sure that I was doing everything that I had planned but I kept referring to it to make sure that I hadn't missed out any vital parts
- I also found it quite hard to keep my actors motivated so that they would take it a little bit more seriously. They soon became bored with repeating each line because I had to make sure that I got the right clip to use in the video so it would flow nicely.
- The weather is an issue in the video because half way through recording it started raining which was really annoying.
- Making sure that the focus was right in my shots. The focus was quite difficult to get right because on the camera screen the video looked in focus but on a larger screen it was quite blurry. However, in the first couple of shots, I thought that I liked the blurry effect it gave so I made it even more blurry.
Effects I used
At the beginning I have use an effect on the video footage where I have made it blurred so that you can just see someone walking towards something but you don't know where it is that they're going to or what they look like. I wanted to leave this as a mystery because I also wanted to use an effect on the opening credits.
I also used an effect on the opening credits where I have the name of the video flashing and each of the letters flash which I thought would really suit the theme of the video. I then did the same with the names of the actors and the person who directed it. I wanted to use this flashing effect because I wanted the audience to think that something was wrong which is typically associated with a flashing light.
Safety
I wanted to ensure that my actors would be safe when I was videoing them. To ensure that they would be safe I would make sure that if they were walking past the camera then they wouldn't trip up on the tripod.
Some interesting comments here. It would be useful to expand a little on, for example, how you might deal with some of these issues in future projects and what this has told you about the process of film-making. I would also like to see a more detailed critical appraisal of the final film. However, I'm pleased that you've been so efficient both in terms of getting the film finished and the blog posts completed - well done.
